IBM Storage Scale System 6000 is an all-flash appliance that runs GPFS. It is the successor to IBM’s ESS line of appliances.

The appliance is model 5149-F48 and its specifications are:12

  • 4U48 enclosure, containing 2x 2U24 server canisters with HA capability
  • 2x 48-core Genoa 9454 CPUs per canister
  • 768 GB to 1.5 TB DRAM (24x 32G or 64G DIMMs) per canister
  • 4x ConnectX-7 HCAs, each with 1x400G or 2x200G InfiniBand ports (200GbE VPI supported too)
  • 24 or 48 NVMe PCIe Gen4 drives
    • Supporting 3.84, 7.68, 15.36, and 30.74 TB NVMe drives
    • Also supports 19.2 TB or 38.4 TB IBM FlashCore Module drives
    • Up to 793 TB usable (48x30.72 TB drives with 8+2, 8 MB block size)
  • Capable of
    • 310 GB/s read1 or 171 GB/s read2
    • 155 GB/s write1 or 112 GB/s write2
