Lux (OLCF)

Lux is the first phase of a follow-on to Frontier at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to be deployed in early 2026.¹ From the press release,²

• It will be based on the ProLiant Compute XD685
• AMD MI355X GPUs
• AMD Pensando Ethernet (see Ultra Ethernet > Implementations)

The original press release said that Lux would “leverage the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as part of the Lux AI Cluster,”¹ but all references to Oracle were quietly dropped around early 2026.

The system is being funded as a public-private partnership, and my understanding is that AMD will be buying cycles on this machine from ORNL on some sort of cost recovery basis.
